About Healthy Archuleta

We are neighbors working together to build stronger food systems, promote health, and support community-led solutions across Archuleta County.
Who We Are
Healthy Archuleta is a community organization working alongside residents, growers, youth, partners, and service providers to strengthen local food systems, advance physical, mental, and behavioral health, and support community-led solutions across Archuleta County.  We do not deliver services in isolation. Instead, we convene, coordinate, and support the people and organizations already doing the work,  helping systems function more effectively, equitably, and sustainably.

🌱 Our Mission & Values
Our Mission
Healthy Archuleta drives strategic systems change by engaging community members to advance nutrition security, health equity, and greater social belonging.
Our Vision
A community where everyone contributes to and benefits from an equitable, resilient, and sustainable food and healthcare system.
Our Values
  • 🤝 Community-led: those most impacted help shape solutions
  • ⚖️ Equity-centered: systems must work for everyone
  • 🔗 Collaborative: lasting change happens together
  • 🌿 Preventive & upstream: support early, not only in crisis
  • 🏔 Rooted in place: solutions reflect local strengths and realities
📖 Our Story
Healthy Archuleta was built on the foundational learning that emerged from the work of the Food System Food Equity Coalition for Archuleta County. That early work was grounded in a shared understanding that strengthening food access requires a deep understanding of the local food system and the many stakeholders within it.

Over time, community conversations, partnerships, and assessments revealed the need for broader systems-level coordination, connecting food systems, health access, youth leadership, and community collaboration, with the recognition that health outcomes and community well-being are deeply interconnected.

Today, our work continues to evolve alongside the community, guided by listening, learning, and shared leadership.

🔄 How We Work
Our Role in the Community:
Healthy Archuleta plays a backbone and convening role, supporting systems-level change while staying grounded in community relationships.
How we work:
  • 🤝 Bring people together across sectors and lived experience
  • 🧭 Support shared planning, learning, and coordination
  • 🧩 Strengthen alignment and reduce duplication
  • 📊 Translate data and community insight into action
  • ⚙️ Support systems change while ensuring people can access help when needed

What that looks like in the community:
  • 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Supporting residents seeking food or health resources
  • 🏥 Strengthening coordination among organizations and providers
  • 🚀 Creating pathways for participation, leadership, and workforce development
  • 📍 Aligning planning, funding, and community priorities
We believe healthier systems lead to healthier communities.
📊 Grounded in Data & Lived Experience
Our work is shaped by both community voice and data.
We regularly learn from the community and apply that learning in practical ways:
  • 🗂 Community assessments helped identify the types of food neighbors prefer at local pantries
  • 💬 Listening sessions and learning circles guided garden education and insurance assistance initiatives
  • 🔍 Shared reflection and evaluation informed planning for the Annual Archuleta Health Fair & Expo
This approach helps ensure our work remains responsive, relevant, and grounded in local reality.
