September in the Garden Education Program
Healthy Archuleta’s gardening programs focus on practical, hands-on learning designed specifically for our local high-altitude environment. Participants gain foundational knowledge on crucial gardening mechanics, including: soil health & preparation, how to choose the appropriate plant varieties, when to plant, overcoming the unique challenges of the mountain garden. Beyond the harvest itself, gardening offers profound personal and community benefits.
Whether you are looking to extend your autumn harvest, learn late-season garden maintenance, or prepare your beds for next spring, this three-part series offers ideal hands-on practice in a supportive setting.
These three sessions offer a fantastic opportunity to gather outdoors, learn directly in a community garden space, and share experiences with fellow local growers.
Classes will take place in the garden and attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather, bring water and sun protection. Garden tools and gloves will be available.

Since 2023, Healthy Archuleta has hosted garden education program that invites community members to get in the garden and learn how to grow, harvest, and prepare their own food. All materials are provided. Children are welcome. Spots for the gardening classes are limited, early registration is encouraged. Stay tuned for the 2027 classes.

For the past two years, Healthy Archuleta has hosted container gardening workshops to empower community members to grow fresh food, regardless of space limitations. By providing all necessary materials and hands-on guidance, we enable families to successfully cultivate their own gardens at home. Through grant funding, four hydroponic growing towers, and the dedication of volunteers and staff, Healthy Archuleta grows fresh produce year-round to donate to local food pantries and help improve nutrition security. The program also serves as a hands-on demonstration of innovative, water-efficient food production that strengthens our local food system. Growers & Producers Forum meets every other month (January–May and September–December), featuring guest speakers and discussions on topics relevant to local agriculture and food systems.
