Name:  SIEMBRA LA CENA CLASSES - GARDEN EDUCATION IN SPANISH LANGUAGE
Dates:  Monday evening April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 - 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm 
Location:  CUMC Fellowship Hall on Lewis Street at 
Description:  The Seed to Supper Gardening Classes curriculum being offered to our Spanish speaking community in their language of choice.  The classes will review the basics of home gardening in the mountains, soil health, what and when to plant and season extenders.  Classes are free.  There a few remaining spots still available, please register for the course, by using the link HERE.

Name:  LANDOWNER BASICS 101 LAND MANAGEMENT CLASSES
Dates:  Tuesday evenings of April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 - 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Location:  CSU Extension Office, 344 Highway 84, Pagosa Springs
Description:  Landowner Basics 101 classes are geared toward educating new landowners proper land and property stewardship through resource management, invasive plant species, soil health, and fire mitigation practices.  The classes are free to the public.  Please register for by emailing Robin Young, [email protected], or by calling 970-264- 5931.

Name:  ARCHULETA COUNTY REGIONAL FOOD SUMMIT
Dates:  Saturday May 11, 2024 - 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Location:  Pagosa Springs High School 
Description:  The Archuleta County Regional Food Summit will be held this coming May 11, 2024.  The goal of the summit is to expand and enhance the local food system movement, by creating a demand for and interest in a local food movement.  The summit will feature a number of speakers and topics relating to local agricultural food production, nutrition security, food preservation and waste prevention.  The summit registration costs $5.00 which includes a farm to table lunch.  Onsite registration and networking light breakfast is from 8:00 - 9:00 am.  For more information, please contact: Healthy Archuleta at [email protected] or 401-206-4579.  To register, please visit please visit this page.

Get a jump on our short growing season by starting plants indoors.  Topics will include indoor lighting set-up, making potting mixes, starting seeds in trays, watering/thinning, and potting up seedlings.  Stay for the free community seed swap (don’t worry if you don’t have seeds to bring/share!)

Preparing Garden Beds for Planting and Basic Irrigation Setup

In this workshop, we will set up new in-ground beds in the Vista Garden.  Participants will gain hands-on experience of double-digging and using a broadfork. Topics of discussion will include soil testing, amendments, preparing existing beds, setting up new in-ground beds, and an overview of irrigation options and water regulations.

Plant Sale/Swap and Workshop: Sowing and Transplanting Early Crops

In this workshop, participants will gain hands-on experience in direct-sowing and transplanting the earliest cold hardy crops, and setting up frost and wind protection.  Additional topics of discussion will include hardening off and watering.  Stay for the plant sale/swap- Bring your extra seedlings to swap, or buy some transplants for your garden.

Come get an in-depth tour of the vegetable production at TerraWalk Farm on the longest day of the year!  In the tour, Farmer Chris will discuss a wide variety of topics related to summer garden maintenance, including watering, thinning, mulching, fertilizing, hilling potatoes, trellising, and pest control.  Participants will gain hands-on experience by helping with current tasks on the farm.  Bring a potluck dish to share!
